Chinese Language Engagement on Naturalization (Telephonic Meeting 2/16/12 @ 10:30 am)

On Thursday, February 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., USCIS will conduct a national Chinese-language engagement (Jiao liú) session as part of our ongoing series of multilingual public engagements. Each Jiao liú session focuses on an immigration-related topic and includes a presentation and Q&A session with USCIS officials. During the Jiao liú session, USCIS spokespersons provide explanations of the law, regulations, and forms, but do not offer legal advice or provide case specific information.
Our first national Jiao liú session will promote the Office of Citizenship’s initiative: The Naturalization Process – Becoming a United States Citizen. The event will be broadcast live from our San Francisco Field Office and stakeholders may participate in person, via teleconference by calling 1-800-475-8388 (password: Jiao liú), or via live Web stream at http://www.uscis.gov/stream/Live

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wei Kong. I founded a local math school named Birmingham Youth Math Academy. This academy is tailored to promote interest in mathematics, to improve understanding of mathematical concepts, and to sharpen creative problem solving skills in young mathletes and gifted kids. I have been tutoring math for several kids in the last 2 years. I am happy to see the kids grow and enjoy the process a lot. So far my teaching is quite successful. All kids love my lectures and they are all actively involved in the learning process. My students have been doing well in recent math tournaments in north Alabama. We are very excited to inform you that Birmingham Chinese Festival Association (BCFA) will host its 6th annual Chinese New Year Celebration for Year 2012 on Saturday January 28, 2012 at Boutwell Auditorium. As a member of the Entertainment Committee at BCFA, Ling Song is in charge of organizing and selecting on-stage performances. We invite you to participate and contribute to this exciting event by submitting any forms of performance that reflects traditional Chinese culture and represents various regions and people in China. This could include dancing, singing, drama, musical instruments and any special skills, such as calligraphy, martial arts,Tai Chi, etc. We also welcome performances from international friends that can enhance cultural exchange. In order to put together a program with many diverse acts in a limited time, we would like for you to submit your entries at your earliest convenience so we can began the selection and organization process. Please fill out the attached form and email it to Ling Song at leizhou1998@gmail.com. We would like to hear from you before the end of November.
Chinese New Year Celebration has brought many people together in the greater Birmingham community to share their appreciation for culture, art, food and many forms of entertainment. We anticipate even greater success in the Year of Dragon.

张燕喜 接掌伯明翰华人同胞会！

该会的其他干部有秘书周佩之、财务陈幼辉。 12名董事为张燕喜、陈幼辉、周佩之、李跃、李敬、张维、张如胜、游志颖、周德旺、秦红伟、姚新程和林惟中。这次的会议决定：中秋节将举办「伯明罕华人达人秀」及加强提供华人社区讯息与协助，该会下次会议将于7月2日举行。
新任会长张燕喜是阿拉巴马州房地产经纪人，2003年从澳洲搬来，曾任会计师，目前任职于Keller Williams公司，从事房地产与贷款业6年。张燕喜表示，未来一年她将先筹画9月的华人达人秀，她也将更新华人同胞会网站、提供更多信息、春节发行新通讯录，筹画税务、口腔保健、法律知识、移民及投资等讲座。
